Patient Safety

At Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, patient safety is one of our highest priorities. We are committed to providing a safe healthcare environment and encourage patients and their families to be actively involved in the care process.

By understanding how we maintain safety, prevent infections, and reduce risks during treatment, patients can play an important role in improving healthcare outcomes. Safe care happens when patients, families, and healthcare professionals work together with awareness and trust.

What We Do

To ensure patient safety during every stage of care, our hospital follows important safety practices such as:

  • Regularly confirming your name and date of birth before treatment or procedures
  • Labelling blood, specimen, and urine containers in your presence for accuracy and safety
  • Washing hands before and after patient care to prevent infection
  • Keeping patients informed about their treatment plan and medical care
  • Verifying the correct procedure or surgery before any operation or intervention
  • Training staff regularly on Environment, Health, and Safety standards for safe handling of food, equipment, uniforms, and patient care support
  • Conducting refresher programs for hospital staff to maintain safety awareness and service quality
  • Ensuring physician prescribed diet orders are prepared and delivered carefully for patient wellbeing

Our healthcare teams remain focused on maintaining safety, comfort, and quality care for both patients and attenders.

What You Can Do

Patients and families also play an important role in maintaining a safe hospital environment.

You can help by:

  • Asking questions to doctors, nurses, and care providers whenever needed
  • Understanding your medications and why they are prescribed
  • Washing your hands before leaving or returning to your room, before and after meals, and after using the bathroom
  • Requesting staff to wash their hands before providing care if needed
  • Avoiding any handling or tampering of medical equipment used in your treatment
  • Following hospital staff instructions during fire or emergency situations
  • Discussing blood sugar control with your doctor if you have diabetes
  • Requesting family or friends not to visit if they are unwell
  • Avoiding the use of tobacco products inside and outside hospital property and grounds
  • Asking for help whenever support is needed

Patient safety is a shared responsibility. With careful medical practices, infection prevention, and active patient participation, we work together to create a safe, respectful, and healing environment for every patient. Your safety remains at the center of everything we do.
